Oberbozen: a hidden gem in South Tyrol

Updated: Nov 7, 2024

The idyllic village on the Ritten mountain ridge above the capital of South Tyrol, "Bozen", is a beautiful place. Nestled in the breathtaking landscape of the Dolomites, the charming mountain village offers numerous discoveries not only for nature lovers, but also for those interested in culture and history.

At the beginning of the 20th century, Ritten was already a popular summer holiday destination for the people of Bolzano who wanted to escape the heat of the city.

Today, the mountain village can be reached comfortably and in an environmentally friendly way - without the need for a car. The historic narrow-gauge railroad connects the village with other villages on the high plateau and offers a nostalgic journey through the breathtaking landscape. Particularly noteworthy is the modern cable car, which connects to the city of Bolzano in just twelve minutes. This is not only popular with commuters, but also with tourists who want to enjoy the contrast between urban life and the tranquil mountain idyll. The cable car allows you to avoid the stressful traffic and quickly reach the heart of the lively city while still enjoying the benefits of a stay in nature.

There are many beautiful hotels in the town, offering not only spectacular views of the Dolomites, but also comfortable retreats after a day of exploring. A visit to the South Tyrolean capital of Bolzano is an experience! The gondola lift takes you from Oberbozen to the center of the capital city of Bolzano in no time at all, without the need for a car.

The village is therefore the perfect starting point for a mountain vacation that combines the best of both worlds: proximity to the city and the tranquillity of nature. This is where history meets modernity in a very relaxed way.
