Hike to the Tillfussalm in Tyrol's Gaistal valley: a nature experience in the heart of the Alps

The mountains are the perfect place to escape from everyday life and immerse yourself in the tranquillity of nature. A hike to the Tillfussalm in Tyrol's Gaistal valley not only offers a welcome break, but also impressive views of the majestic Tyrolean Alps. Those who want to enjoy unspoilt nature will appreciate this tour as an unforgettable experience.

Travelling to the Tyrolean Gaistal

The Gaistal, a picturesque valley in the heart of Tyrol, stretches between the regions of Seefeld and the famous Wetterstein mountains. The easiest way to get there is via Seefeld, where you can reach the valley in just a few minutes by car or public transport. The Gaistal valley offers its visitors breathtaking scenery in both summer and winter, captivating hikers and nature lovers alike.

The hike to the Tillfussalm

The hike to the Tillfussalm starts at one of the many car parks in the Gaistal valley, from where a well-marked hiking trail leads towards the alpine pasture. The route is well signposted and is suitable for hikers with an average level of fitness. The trail is around 5 kilometres long and leads through an idyllic forest landscape, criss-crossed by clear mountain streams and gently babbling waters. The Gaisbach stream accompanies the hiker for part of the route, creating a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere.

The first section of the trail leads through a sparse forest, which slowly gives way to meadows and mountain huts. The closer you get to the Tillfussalm, the more impressive the view of the surrounding peaks of the Wetterstein mountains becomes. The rugged rocks that tower into the sky form a fascinating contrast to the green meadows and alpine huts.

The Tillfussalm: A paradise for nature lovers

The Tillfussalm is a true haven of peace and invites you to linger. The alpine pasture is located at around 1,382 metres above sea level and offers a magnificent view of the valley and the surrounding mountains. In summer, the meadows around the alp are covered in colourful flowers, bathing the area in a sea of colour. Especially in June and July, when the alpine flowers are in full bloom, the hike becomes a special experience.

The alp itself is a cosy place where hikers can take a well-earned break. Regional specialities such as cheese dishes and hearty farmhouse bread are served here, making it the perfect place to stop for a bite to eat. The alpine cheese in particular, which is made right here on site, is a treat not to be missed. If you wish, you can also take a short walk through the alpine meadows and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere to the full.

Way back and end of the hike

The way back follows the same route, but offers new impressions due to the different light conditions and perspective. If you want to make the hike a little more varied, you can also choose alternative routes via the neighbouring hills and alpine pastures. The descent is just as relaxed as the ascent, allowing you to take in the surroundings at your leisure.

If you still have time after the hike, you should definitely make a short detour to Seefeld to enjoy the Tyrolean hospitality in one of the numerous cafés or restaurants and round off the day in a cosy atmosphere.
